A Hot New Trend in CoolSculpting ®
CoolSculpting ® is the new hot topic in social circles in Los Angeles. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as an acceptable noninvasive fat removal treatment, CoolSculpting ® uses a fat-freezing procedure known as Cryolipolysis.
Doctors noticed that children who ate a lot of popsicles were losing fat in their cheeks. They concluded that fat cells were more temperature-sensitive than skin cells and would die at a certain freezing temperature if maintained over a period of time. Since fat cells go through the death process before skin cells, cooling these cells can eliminate them without hurting the surrounding skin and tissue.
How Does CoolSculpting ® Work?
First approved by the FDA in 2010, CoolSculpting ® has picked up steam as a promising way to eliminate love handles and bra bulge without the invasive liposuction procedure. Using rounded paddles of various sizes, the skin and fat are suctioned up, and cooling panels are used to crystalize the fat cells.
There is mild discomfort that most people tolerate very well. Patients experience the suction then cooling sensation, then the treated area goes numb. Sitting comfortably in a reclining chair, many patients bring a computer to do work or watch a movie, or simply take a nap while getting their treatment.
Who Is CoolSculpting ® Designed to Treat?
Since CoolSculpting ® is not designed for major fat removal, but rather spot removal of stubborn fat, someone who is looking for mild improvements to particular areas are best suited for CoolSculpting ®. Whether it is a set of love handles, bra bulge, or a pooch in the abdomen, CoolSculpting ® is ideal for particular areas of fat, not all over fat.
Another consideration in regards to CoolSculpting ®, doctors look at several factors: age, skin quality, and firmness of tissue. Since CoolSculpting ® treats only the areas that can be suctioned into the cups, if a patient has firm, thick tissue, not as much of the fat can be reached and therefore removed.
What Are Typical CoolSculpting ® Results?
Results for CoolSculpting ® are not as immediate as in liposuction. Up to a 25 percent fat reduction in a treated area will eventually happen, but not instantly. The more treatments a person has, the more results are seen. CoolSculpting ® is not for overall weight loss, but rather trouble spots that diet and exercise have not rid.
Is CoolSculpting ® Permanent?
CoolSculpting ® is a permanent fat reduction treatment, but if you gain weight, it will go somewhere. Lifestyle changes through diet and exercise are the best assurance that the CoolSculpting ® results will last.
Is CoolSculpting ® Safe?
The risks to this noninvasive procedure are very, very low. Irregularities in contour may occur, as in liposuction. The CoolSculpting ® machine allows for less human error, but it is also limited in the terms of “fine-tuning” the way a skillful plastic surgeon may by hand. One potential complication is that the numbed nerves might feel as if they have fallen asleep, but this is only a temporary side effect. There are no incisions where infection may set in and swelling is minimal.
