How does CoolSculpting ® technician perform liposuction?
There are several types of liposuction CoolSculpting ® technician may perform. The type you are having will determine many factors, such as whether you are an outpatient at the plastic surgeon’s office or in a surgical center, able to go home the same day. For larger volumes of fat removed during liposuction, you may have to be an overnight patient in a hospital setting.
Prior to the start of liposuction, you will be anesthetized with either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with a sedative. When that takes effect, CoolSculpting ® technician will begin your liposuction procedure.
CoolSculpting ® technician’s first step during liposuction is to make small incisions on the areas to be treated using liposuction. He then inserts a suction device into the cuts, removing fat through that device.
CoolSculpting ® technician will either use tumescent liposuction, laser liposuction or ultrasound-assisted liposuction. Tumescent liposuction involves injection of anesthetic into fatty areas prior to fat removal. This injection helps facilitate fat removal, reduces blood loss and eases pain. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction uses ultrasonic energy waves to liquefy fat for easier removal. Laser liposuction heats fat to liquefy it prior to removal, also heating the skin and providing smoother skin surfacing in the process.
What is recovery from liposuction like?
Liposuction recovery depends upon several variables, such as how much fat you had removed. Most patients are able to go back to a daily routine within a few days following their liposuction. It will usually be a few weeks before life returns to normal activity levels. Exercise and heavy lifting should not be done for several weeks.
There will be significant swelling, possible bruising and soreness for weeks following liposuction. CoolSculpting ® technician will advise you regarding use of a compression garment to help keep swelling to a minimum and for stabilization of your treated body areas.
